Assistant Director of International Student Life

About the role

The Assistant Director of International Student Life supports international and global‑nomad students as they transition to and engage with campus life at Carleton College. Working within the Office of International Student Life, the role creates programs and provides services for roughly 200‑250 students.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise student employees, including International Peer Leaders.
• Design and manage cultural and social programs that foster interaction between international and domestic students.
• Develop and implement International Student Orientation and International Fest.
• Collaborate with student organizations and campus offices to promote global citizenship.
• Assess program effectiveness and adjust offerings based on student needs.
• Provide cultural, personal, and regulatory advising on housing, transportation, employment, taxes, insurance, health, banking, driver’s license, SSN, and related matters.
• Support SEVP compliance through advising, data maintenance, and document storage.
• Serve on campus committees advocating for international students and third‑culture kids.
• Maintain the ISL website and social media, support the UWC scholar program, and process reimbursements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum two years of experience working with international students or marginalized populations.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency for SEVIS work.
• Experience supervising student workers or staff.
• Proven event‑planning and project‑management abilities.
