Assistant Director, Counseling

About the role

The Office of Student Financial Services at Georgetown University seeks an Assistant Director, Counseling to provide comprehensive financial aid guidance to current and prospective undergraduate students and their families. Working under the Director of University Financial Aid Compliance, you will help ensure students understand and navigate federal, state, private, and institutional aid programs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver counseling on financial aid processes, procedures, and program rules.
• Assist with the undergraduate caseload, including preliminary review and processing of applications.
• Maintain accurate financial aid records and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and university policies.
• Communicate verbally and in writing with students and families to provide high‑quality customer service.
• Manage an active caseload of approximately 1,250 financial aid applicants annually, including application audit, financial counseling, enrollment monitoring, and emergency aid reviews.
• Support the administration of $300 million in scholarship, loan, and work‑study programs.

Required profile

• Intermediate supervision experience in a higher‑education financial aid environment.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse student and parent populations.
• Detail‑oriented with a commitment to compliance and confidentiality.
