Assistant Dean – Student Engagement & Success

About the role

The Assistant Dean for Student Engagement and Success is a senior faculty leadership position within the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFNR) at Prairie View A&M University. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the role advances a comprehensive student‑success agenda that aligns with the land‑grant mission of teaching, research, and extension.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evaluate programs that promote student participation in campus life, clubs, leadership activities, and community service.
• Develop and oversee academic support services such as mentoring, tutoring, workshops, and orientation to improve retention and graduation rates.
• Create and execute a CAFNR Student Engagement Strategy, identify barriers to persistence, and use data to guide decisions.
• Provide insight on student climate, recommend policy improvements, and support faculty, staff, Extension, and research leaders in collaborative initiatives.
• Lead efforts that integrate experiential learning, community engagement, and workforce development across Texas.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in higher‑education student affairs or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to develop data‑informed programs that enhance student persistence and success.
• Strong collaborative skills with faculty, staff, Extension personnel, and research leadership.
• Experience managing budgets, supervising staff, and aligning initiatives with institutional goals.
