Assistant Controller / Property Controller

About the role

Our client, a nationally recognized healthcare real estate developer and investor, is looking for an Assistant Controller / Property Controller to join its corporate accounting team in Dallas, Texas. Reporting to the Controller and Managing Director, you will lead a small team of senior accountants and support the financial reporting for a growing portfolio of medical office buildings, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospitals.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in managing day‑to‑day accounting operations for a expanding real‑estate portfolio.
• Supervise and mentor 3–4 Senior Accountants, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and professional development.
• Review financial statements, reconciliations, and month‑end close activities.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and audit activities.
• Partner with executive leadership to provide timely financial analysis and operational insights.
• Improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls as the company scales.
• Collaborate across departments on acquisitions, development projects, and portfolio management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation preferred but not required.
• 3–5 years of leadership experience supervising accounting staff.
• Experience in real‑estate, construction, property management, investment, or development accounting strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Proven ability to manage month‑end close and financial statement preparation.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment.
