Assistant Coach - Baseball

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a full‑time Assistant Baseball Coach to support the Head Coach in all aspects of its Division I baseball program. This twelve‑month contractual position focuses on pitching development, recruiting, player academic support, and overall team operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, instruct, and oversee the pitching staff, including practice planning, bullpen management, and in‑game strategy.
• Design individual and team pitching development programs targeting mechanics, velocity, command, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
• Assist the Head Coach with recruiting, scouting, and evaluating prospective student‑athletes in compliance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations.
• Coordinate scouting reports, video analysis, and opponent preparation for the coaching staff.
• Monitor academic progress, retention, and graduation success of student‑athletes.
• Support scheduling, travel coordination, team operations, equipment inventory, and daily practice logistics.
• Supervise student managers and foster positive relationships with alumni, donors, and the community.
• Participate in camps, clinics, fundraising initiatives, and community service projects while ensuring compliance with all relevant policies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience coaching baseball at the collegiate level, preferably Division I.
• Strong knowledge of NCAA rules, conference regulations, and university policies.
• Proven ability to recruit and evaluate student‑athletes.
• Commitment to academic mentorship and student‑athlete development.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
