Assistant Attorney General (Level 1-6) – Statewide

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is recruiting Assistant Attorneys General (Level 1-6) for statewide assignments. This continuous announcement will be reviewed as applications are received, and the position may be filled at the appropriate level based on the candidate’s experience.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal representation to the State of Louisiana, its agencies, boards, commissions, and elected officials across civil, criminal, and administrative matters.
• Handle litigation in the Civil Division, including governmental, education, public finance, environmental, lands, and natural resources cases.
• Assist federal, state, and local agencies in criminal investigations and prosecutions within the Criminal Division.
• Participate in appellate work and Supreme Court matters through the Federalism Division’s Solicitor General’s office.
• Represent the State in gaming regulation matters within the Gaming Division.
• Support the Litigation Division in tort claims, civil rights, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation cases.
• Investigate and prosecute Medicaid fraud and related abuse in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
• Address public protection complaints and consumer protection issues.

Required profile

• Law degree and admission to practice law in Louisiana.
• Relevant legal experience appropriate to the Assistant Attorney General level.
• Ability to pass background check, drug testing, and reference verification.
• Willingness to be assigned to any parish within the state.
