Architectural Associate

About the role

Flad is seeking an Architectural Associate to join its San Francisco studio. You will work in a collaborative environment that values creativity, technical expertise, and innovative problem‑solving across a range of projects in science, technology, higher education, and development.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare presentation materials, including conceptual drawings, 3D renderings, visualizations, and both digital and physical models.
• Develop and modify design and technical solutions throughout all project phases.
• Participate in design discussions, idea generation, and produce work in drawing, model, and 3D image formats.
• Assist team members to meet aggressive schedules, deadlines, and budget constraints.
• Generate revisions from mock‑ups, redlined drawings, and project document sets.
• Attend client meetings to observe processes and develop presentation skills.
• Participate in construction site visits, identify conflicts, and propose resolution alternatives.

Required profile

• Minimum of one year of recent, relevant architectural experience.
• Portfolio demonstrating strong design thinking and presentation media.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture (NAAB‑accredited preferred).
• Interest in sustainability and related accreditation is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Rhino or SketchUp.
• Experience with 3D rendering software.
• Beginner‑level knowledge of Revit (at least one year of recent use).
• Familiarity with real‑time rendering engines such as Enscape or Twinmotion.
• Understanding of AR/VR workflows.
• Experience with visual scripting tools like Grasshopper and Dynamo.
• Adobe Creative Suite proficiency.
• AutoCAD knowledge.
