Archaeological Field Technician II

About the role

The Archaeological Field Technician II provides in‑field and clerical support for archaeological projects throughout the Phoenix area and across Arizona. The role involves assisting the crew chief or field director with survey documentation, data collection, and artifact identification.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Crew Chief or Field Director with survey documentation and follow North Wind field protocols.
• Collect data using GPS units (Trimble, Garmin, iOS Field Collector), photograph project areas and artifacts, and record artifact/feature descriptions.
• Maintain safety awareness, communicate regularly with project managers, and drive to project sites in Arizona.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or related field with experience in Southwest archaeology.
• Ability to work in inclement conditions, walk long hours over rugged terrain, and carry equipment up to 30 lb.
• Strong work ethic, professional communication skills, and willingness to work irregular hours.

Required skills

• Use of GPS units (Trimble, Garmin, iOS Field Collector) for data collection.
• Artifact and feature identification and documentation.
