About the role
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) is seeking a full‑time ArcGIS Geospatial Researcher with a maritime focus to support its conflict‑mapping program. The role involves conducting advanced geospatial analysis of ongoing conflicts and national security threats, contributing to high‑impact intelligence products used by policymakers, military leaders, and humanitarian organizations.
Key responsibilities
- Synthesize open‑source political and security data to produce dynamic conflict maps.
- Compile, manipulate, and analyze geospatial datasets using ArcGIS and related tools.
- Leverage partnerships with satellite‑imagery and remote‑sensing providers to enhance research capabilities.
- Support long‑term forecasting projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Mentor interns, provide GIS training, and assist in editing intelligence products.
- Ensure compliance with data‑handling and storage guidelines.
Required profile
- Strong analytical mindset with experience in conflict or security research.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent written communication skills for producing intelligence briefs.
