Applied Data Scientist – AI Enablement (Transportation)

About the role

HDR is seeking an Applied Data Scientist to lead AI enablement within its Transportation Business Group. The role will initially focus on building internal AI capabilities, improving data and technology foundations, and removing systemic bottlenecks. As the internal platform matures, the scientist will transition to client‑facing AI delivery and advisory work.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI solutions that address internal transportation business needs such as document intelligence and predictive analytics.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks in data pipelines, tooling, and processes to enable scalable AI adoption.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including planners, engineers, and consultants—to integrate AI into transportation projects.
• Gradually shift focus to client‑facing AI pilots and advisory engagements as internal capabilities become proven.
• Continuously learn and upskill to stay current with emerging AI technologies.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset with experience in applying AI/ML techniques to real‑world problems.
• Ability to work independently and influence stakeholders across technical and non‑technical domains.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex AI concepts into actionable business insights.
