Applied AI Data Scientist

About the role

LexisNexis Legal & Professional, part of RELX, is seeking an Applied AI Data Scientist to shape the next generation of AI‑powered legal products. You will work on‑site in New York City, partnering with AI engineers, product teams and enterprise stakeholders to turn research into production‑ready AI features.

Key responsibilities

• Spend time with lawyers, legal operations teams and internal experts to understand real‑world workflows.
• Translate ambiguous customer pain points into well‑scoped, measurable problem statements.
• Prototype, validate and refine AI‑powered workflows based on direct user feedback.
• Incorporate the customer voice into model selection, evaluation criteria and trade‑off decisions.
• Occasionally travel to customer sites to gather deeper insights.
• Design and run experiments to improve AI design, retrieval quality and prompting strategies.
• Collaborate closely with Applied AI Engineers, product, engineering and AI Platform teams.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience in applied data science and machine learning.
• Proven ability to experiment, evaluate and iterate on AI models in production settings.
• Strong customer‑focused mindset with excellent communication skills.
• Experience working cross‑functionally with engineers, product managers and stakeholders.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
