Application Software Developer/Engineer (Senior, Mid, Junior)

About the role

We are looking for motivated Application Software Developers and Engineers at senior, intermediate and junior levels to support the USDA National Agricultural Library (NAL) scientific research data applications. The role involves operations and maintenance, as well as new development for platforms such as GeoData, Ag Data Commons, and related data products.

Key responsibilities

• Provide O&M support for NAL scientific research data applications.
• Design, develop, and maintain microservices for data ingest, processing, and egress.
• Maintain system architecture documentation, API specs, technical diagrams, and data models.
• Implement application enhancements, updates, testing, troubleshooting, deployment and production releases.
• Configure and maintain SaaS environments, including data migration activities.
• Develop reporting dashboards and analytics for repository usage.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs for internal and external integrations.
• Execute QA processes, automated and UI testing, and support ETL and data migration efforts.
• Ensure compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.x AA accessibility standards.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews and technical documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience developing customized applications.
• At least 1 year of experience with open‑source software and tools.
• Experience designing and implementing microservices‑based architectures.
