Animal Welfare Project Manager

About the role

The Animal Welfare Project Manager will lead and coordinate projects that enhance research animal welfare and promote research excellence within the Texas A&M University System. Reporting to the Research Compliance Office, the role supports the development of a strategic research infrastructure across the system’s campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and direct animal welfare projects and programs, aligning them with system‑wide research goals.
• Develop and deliver training on the 3Rs, advanced human‑relevant technologies, and novel alternative methodologies (NAMs).
• Network with researchers and external partners to raise awareness of animal welfare best practices.
• Assist research units in creating standard operating procedures that improve animal welfare.
• Provide consulting on grant proposals related to the 3Rs and alternative models.
• Support AAALAC and other accreditation processes for member institutions.
• Conduct and seek funding for research that advances animal‑friendly methodologies.

Required profile

• Experience in managing research‑related projects, preferably in a university or research institution.
• Strong understanding of animal welfare regulations, the 3Rs, and emerging alternative research methods.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with diverse scientific teams.
• Ability to develop training materials and deliver presentations.

Required skills

• Knowledge of AAALAC accreditation standards.
• Familiarity with human‑relevant model systems and novel alternative methodologies.
