Animal Control Shelter Office Staff

About the role

The City of Southaven is seeking a dedicated Shelter Office Staff member to support the Animal Control Division. The role involves maintaining the shelter facility, assisting the public with adoption inquiries, handling complaints, and coordinating with Animal Control Officers. Additional responsibilities include managing supply inventory, providing food, water and personal care to detained animals, reporting animal bite cases and working with the Police Department on investigations, and maintaining accurate files on impounded animals and their disposition. The employee will also perform other duties as assigned.

Key responsibilities

• Cleans and helps maintain the shelter facility to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
• Answers customer questions about animals available for adoption and explains the adoption process.
• Addresses customer concerns or complaints regarding animal control matters and dispatches Animal Control Officers when required.
• Assists in managing supply inventory, tracking food, medical supplies, and equipment.
• Supplies food, water and personal care to detained animals, ensuring their well‑being.
• Reports complaints of animal bite cases and collaborates with the Police Department to investigate.
• Maintains accurate files regarding impounded animals and documents their disposition.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Animal Control Director.
