After‑School Program Fall 2026 Intern – Unpaid

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an enthusiastic intern to support its After‑School Program in Louisville for the Fall 2026 term. This unpaid position offers hands‑on experience working with middle and high school students, helping them succeed academically and socially.

Key responsibilities

• Provide tutoring and homework assistance to program participants.
• Help organize enrichment activities that promote cultural integration and social development.
• Coordinate transportation logistics alongside EYS staff.
• Assist in planning educational outings and community‑building events.
• Support students in building confidence within U.S. school systems.
• Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Current undergraduate or graduate student (or less than 12 months post‑graduation), preferably in Education, Social Work, or a related field.
• Access to a personal vehicle or reliable transportation.
• U.S. citizenship or valid work authorization; the IRC does not sponsor visas.
• Availability 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM EST on Mondays and Wednesdays.
• Ability to handle sensitive client information confidentially.
• Strong intercultural communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Fluency in spoken and written English (additional languages are a plus).
