AEC Expert Report Writer

About the role

A specialized AEC professional provides forensic investigations, technical assessments and expert consulting for complex construction, insurance and litigation matters. They are looking for an experienced AEC expert report writer to turn complex technical findings into clear, structured, defensible reports for attorneys, insurers, judges, juries and technical experts. The engagement is ongoing and as-needed, about 2 reports per quarter, around 20 hours per quarter, with flexibility for revisions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop expert reports using the IRAC framework (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion)
• Translate expert-provided findings, verbal briefings and technical documentation into cohesive reports
• Cover construction defects, performance failures, noncompliance, errors and omissions, and insurance and surety claims
• Document schedule delays, liquidated damages, remediation costs and economic impacts
• Incorporate contract documents, building codes, photographs and supporting evidence
• Collaborate with the subject matter expert on drafts and revisions while preserving independent technical conclusions
• Adapt the report structure to client needs and maintain strict confidentiality

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience writing formal AEC expert reports for insurance, surety, construction disputes or litigation
• Prior expert report writing experience is essential; general technical writing experience alone is not enough
• Preferred: PE, RA or a forensic/construction claims consulting background
• Preferred: civil or mechanical engineering, construction delay analysis and remediation cost assessment experience

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of construction practices, engineering principles and technical documentation
• Familiarity with IRAC and evidence-based expert reporting
• Ability to communicate complex findings clearly and accurately
