Adjunct Instructor – Part‑time Teaching Position

About the role
The Department of Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a part‑time Adjunct Instructor to join its faculty for a six‑month appointment beginning July 1, 2026. This temporary, visiting position involves teaching undergraduate courses, contributing to curriculum development, and supporting student learning.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality instruction for communication courses, both in‑person and, where applicable, online.
- Prepare syllabi, lesson plans, and assessment materials aligned with department standards.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and projects.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate students.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum review.
Required profile
- Graduate degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) in Communication, Media Studies, Rhetoric, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage diverse student audiences.
- Commitment to the university’s mission of innovative teaching, research, and public service.
Required skills
- Knowledge of communication theory and media studies.
- Experience designing and delivering course content.
- Ability to assess and provide feedback on student work.
