Adjunct English Lecturer

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks qualified adjunct faculty for its Department of English and Modern Languages. Candidates will teach on campus in Princess Anne, Maryland, with occasional online opportunities, focusing on socio‑linguistics and digital humanities courses for the Fall 2025 semester.

Key responsibilities

• Teach Composition 1 and 2, Technical Writing, Speech, and related courses.
• Provide instruction in literature, linguistics, English education, or digital media as needed.
• Develop and deliver inclusive lesson plans that address race, gender, and social equity.
• Assess student performance and maintain course records in the LMS.
• Participate in departmental meetings and uphold the standardized syllabus.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credits in English or a related discipline (exceptional BA candidates with 5+ years professional experience may be considered).
• Minimum one year of college‑level teaching experience as Instructor of Record.
• Demonstrated commitment to HBCU mission and inclusive pedagogy.
• Ability to engage students of diverse preparation levels.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
• Effective use of classroom technology to enhance learning.
