Activity Therapist (GRHS)

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an Activity Therapist to plan, direct and coordinate therapeutic recreation programs for clients in the Georgia Regional Hospital System (GRHS) in Savannah. The role involves delivering sports, gardening, music, arts and crafts activities to improve mental and physical well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct therapy sessions to improve clients' mental and physical well‑being.
• Plan, organize, direct and participate in recreational programs such as sports, gardening, music, arts and crafts.
• Assess client conditions, develop individualized treatment plans and modify programs based on progress.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team to evaluate and adjust therapy activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
• At least two years of relevant experience, or one year at the lower‑level Activity Therapist 2 position.
• Preferred experience in adult mental‑health or hospital settings and certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist (CTRS).

Required skills

• Knowledge of DSM‑IV assessment for psychological disorders.
• Familiarity with exercise and wellness programs such as yoga, aerobics, walking and relaxation techniques.
• Ability to use recreation‑therapy assessment tools to document client progress.
• Competence in planning, developing and structuring program activities according to policies and client needs.
• Skill in coordinating with treatment teams for scheduling and program planning.
