Activity Therapist – Columbus

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking an Activity Therapist to join the West Central Georgia Regional Hospital team in Columbus. This position supports therapeutic recreation programs that enhance the wellbeing of clients.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate therapeutic recreation activities such as sports, gardening, music, arts and crafts, and social events.
• Conduct assessments of clients’ conditions and recommend appropriate recreational interventions.
• Document client progress and maintain accurate records of activities.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to integrate recreation into overall treatment plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or a related therapeutic discipline from an accredited institution.
• At least one year of job‑related experience or equivalent experience at the Activity Therapist I level.
• Current licensure or registration as required by the State of Georgia for therapeutic recreation professionals.
• Ability to meet mandatory health and safety requirements, including drug screening, TB testing, and vaccinations.
