Accounting Technician

About the role

The Accounting Technician supports the financial accounting processes at the Dekalb Campus of Georgia Piedmont Technical College. This paraprofessional role ensures accurate handling of student and third‑party payments, maintains contract records, and assists with daily cash operations.

Key responsibilities

• Establish, maintain, and process third‑party contracts, scholarships, and electronic billing in the student accounts receivable system.
• Receive, record, and reconcile cash, check, credit‑card, and wire payments for students and vendors using Banner.
• Review and maintain funds held for others, distributing them on a weekly basis.
• Communicate with students, vendors, faculty, and staff regarding account status and payment plans.
• Perform end‑of‑day cash balancing and cashier session reconciliation.
• Assist students with BankMobile access and manage collections through external agencies.
• Participate in year‑end close processes and attend training for new procedures.
• Enter customer data into PeopleSoft Financials and perform routine clerical duties.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and student accounts management practices.
• Familiarity with relevant federal and state regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word.
• Proficiency with MS Excel.
• Experience using Banner Accounts Receivables.
• Experience using PeopleSoft Financials.
