Accounting Technician III – Advanced Finance Support

About the role

The Accounting Technician III provides advanced support to the Student Accounts division at Fresno State, handling complex financial data, reconciliations, and reporting. Reporting to the Director of Student Accounts, this full‑time position requires strong judgment, initiative, and the ability to develop and improve accounting procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble and compile data for financial reports and analyses.
• Maintain accounting records for multiple funds, programs, and high‑volume transactions.
• Prepare and review account reconciliations and monthly adjusting entries.
• Create, modify, and troubleshoot advanced queries and spreadsheets, ensuring data accuracy.
• Update accounting tables, online functionality, and support financial software testing for upgrades.
• Identify and resolve application errors in collaboration with IT and other stakeholders.
• Communicate university policies and procedures to faculty, staff, and the public, interpreting complex guidelines as needed.

Required profile

• Comprehensive knowledge of financial record‑keeping methods and basic GAAP principles.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and develop new procedures.
• Experience handling multi‑transaction accounting environments and resolving unusual problems.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, tables, and data analysis.
• Experience creating and running advanced queries (e.g., SQL‑based) for financial data extraction.
• Familiarity with financial software implementation and testing.
