Accountant – Retail Accounting

About the role

This position supports the retail accounting function at Carter’s Inc., handling monthly and quarterly close, reconciliations, and financial reporting while collaborating with business stakeholders on budgeting and performance analysis. The role is based in the Buckhead office and works in an on‑site environment.

Key responsibilities

• Execute monthly and quarterly retail accounting close procedures, including reconciliation of balance‑sheet accounts.
• Analyze balance‑sheet and expense accounts, prepare journal‑entry adjustments, and reconcile retail tender settlements (credit/debit, PayPal, BNPL, gift cards).
• Partner with internal stakeholders to track actual spending against budget and forecast, ensure proper accruals, and provide variance commentary.
• Prepare and file annual Canadian recycling (Extended Producer Responsibility) reports and census filings.
• Produce monthly/quarterly expense analyses of retail stores and quarterly KPI reports.
• Develop ad‑hoc financial analyses, charts, reports, and presentations; maintain Tableau dashboards.
• Own internal controls, maintain systems and databases, and assist with internal and external audit requests.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 0–2 years of accounting experience.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
• Detail‑oriented and capable of meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Financial modeling.
• Tableau for dashboard reporting.
• Experience with AI tools such as large language models.
