Accountant IV – Financial Review Unit

About the role

The Georgia Department of Education is seeking an Accountant IV to join its Financial Review Unit. Working under general supervision, you will apply GAAP and government auditing standards to support local education agencies and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Research, document, and integrate accounting procedures that meet GAAP, Government Auditing Standards, and statutory requirements for local education agencies.
• Review audit reports, track corrective actions, and ensure timely closure of audits.
• Identify and implement improvements to financial and budgetary data recording and reporting.
• Provide technical assistance and on‑site support to finance officers of local school systems.
• Deliver training on accounting, compliance processes, and fiscal closeout procedures.
• Assist the Accounting Manager with complex federal reporting, consolidated fund accounting, and ad‑hoc analysis.
• Prepare standard and specialized accounting reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Experience preparing financial statements, preferably in a K‑12 or governmental setting.
• Familiarity with local school system accounting and audit processes.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with auditors, finance officers, and management.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PCGenesis school district accounting software.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
