Accountant – Financial Operations & Process Improvement

About the role

National Co+op Grocers (NCG) is seeking a detail‑oriented Accountant to support its financial operations across the United States. The role combines core accounting duties with process‑improvement initiatives to ensure accurate reporting and efficient decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Verify invoice accuracy, code and enter payables, and process weekly vendor payments with Controller approval.
• Maintain accounts payable schedules using automation tools such as BILL.
• Prepare AR aging reports, monitor past‑due accounts, and handle collection inquiries.
• Provide administrative and financial reporting support to staff as needed.
• Assist the Controller with month‑end and year‑end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and documentation review.
• Manage the corporate credit‑card program, adjust limits, replace cards, and reconcile statements with expense reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience covering AP, AR, general ledger, and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and its application in daily accounting operations.
• Experience preparing complex journal entries, reconciliations, and large‑volume financial data analysis.
• Proven ability to support budgeting, monitor budget‑to‑actual performance, and deliver financial analysis.

Required skills

• QuickBooks Online.
• Microsoft Word, Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP), and Outlook.
• BILL automation tool for accounts payable.
