Accountant – Finance Department

About the role

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking a full‑time Accountant to join its Finance department. The role supports the efficient flow of electricity across the state by ensuring accurate financial reporting and cash management for market operations and interconnection projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries with supporting documentation and reconcile assigned general‑ledger accounts on a daily or monthly basis.
• Develop schedules for the Monthly Financial Report and submit them for management review.
• Analyze and reconcile bank‑account activity, produce daily cash‑reconciliation reports, and monitor cash status for NYISO and market participants.
• Process market participant accounts receivable and payable, generate related reports, and coordinate tax‑status documentation.
• Assist with internal and external audits, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to policy and procedure development.
• Provide cross‑training to accounting staff and support other accountants as needed.
• Perform basic clerical duties such as filing, copying, and faxing.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records.
• Experience preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
• Capability to respond to internal and external inquiries and support audit processes.
• Willingness to assist with special projects and improve internal controls.
