Accountant – Development Control Unit

About the role

The New York City Housing Authority is looking for an Accountant to join the Development Control Unit within the Revenue & Receivables Division. The role focuses on managing rent collection, reconciling financial data, and supporting accurate reporting for the Authority’s housing portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Review monthly Project Monthly Summary (PMS) upload files from RCS to Oracle.
• Reconcile daily rent collection receipts with tenant account postings.
• Analyze tenant receivables, calculate monthly bad‑debt allowances, and recommend allowance rates.
• Prepare and post accounting entries in Oracle General Ledger.
• Perform daily and monthly rent collection reconciliations and cash activity reconciliations.
• Coordinate with multiple units to ensure accurate financial transaction recording.
• Prepare financial and quantitative analysis reports for stakeholders.
• Reconcile revenue clearing and various General Ledger accounts.

Required profile

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with at least 24 semester credits in accounting, including advanced accounting and auditing.
• Experience in public‑sector accounting or similar environments is preferred.
• Ability to work with detailed financial data and meet strict reporting deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Oracle financial systems (General Ledger, PMS uploads).
