Accountant 1 – Accounts Payable (Entry Level)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Administrative Services is hiring two entry‑level accountants for its Fiscal Services Unit. The position focuses on accounts payable and/or accounts receivable functions, ensuring accurate processing of supplier invoices, payments, and financial records in accordance with GAAP and state policies.

Key responsibilities

• Review and process supplier invoices and payment requests for accuracy, completeness, and proper authorization.
• Execute PO and non‑PO payments, and support settlement activities.
• Apply correct financial coding, including spend categories, worktags, and cost centers.
• Research and resolve invoice, supplier, and payment discrepancies.
• Reconcile AP transactions to the general ledger and assist with month‑end and year‑end closing.
• Maintain supporting documentation and respond to inquiries from suppliers and internal staff.
• Assist with preparing financial reports and developing policies for assigned areas.

Required profile

• Entry‑level candidate willing to learn under supervision.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and GAAP.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Good communication skills for interacting with suppliers and internal teams.
