About the role
The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking qualified Academy Instructors to join its Training and Development Division. In this role you will plan, deliver, and assess recruit and in‑service training programs that support the department’s mission of safe, secure, and rehabilitative correctional facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Design, deliver, and evaluate classroom instruction for new‑hire orientation, professional development, and ongoing in‑service training.
- Ensure all training complies with DOC policies, NYS DCJS guidelines, and Municipal Police Training Council curriculum.
- Conduct in‑class assessments to verify achievement of learning objectives.
- Assist in creating and revising lesson plans and training materials.
- Provide recommendations to improve use of staff, equipment, technology, and other resources.
- Support division leadership with additional duties as assigned.
Required profile
- Baccalaureate degree with at least two years of relevant community or correctional work experience, or high school diploma with six years of relevant experience.
- NY State Division of Criminal Justice Services (NYS DCJS) certification as a General Topics Instructor.
- Demonstrated ability to follow established curricula and assess trainee performance.
