About the role
The Maritime Studies Department at Texas A&M University‑Galveston seeks up to five full‑time Academic Professional Track (Non‑Tenure) faculty members. Appointments may be 4.5‑month or 9‑month contracts, with the possibility of a summer term, beginning Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
Key responsibilities
- Design, deliver, evaluate, and assess undergraduate courses across a broad range of subjects including anthropology, archaeology, communications, diving, history, hospitality, tourism, and related fields.
- Advise and mentor students, supporting their academic and professional development.
- Participate in departmental service, curriculum development, and university committees.
- Contribute to the department’s research and outreach activities as appropriate.
Required profile
- Relevant terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.A., M.S.) in one or more of the listed disciplines.
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and student mentorship.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary maritime studies environment.
- Commitment to the mission of Texas A&M University‑Galveston and its focus on the relationship between humans and the sea.
