Academic Counselor 2 – Honors College Advising

About the role

The Academic Counselor 2 provides comprehensive academic and career advising to students of the Ogden Honors College. Working closely with the Director for Advising and Enrollment Management, the counselor supports student retention and success through personalized guidance and programmatic initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual academic counseling on admissions, course planning, graduation requirements, and honors curriculum.
• Provide career counseling, including values assessment, goal discussion, and interpretation of placement, occupational and interest tests.
• Design, develop and facilitate workshops, information sessions, orientation events and other student‑development programs.
• Coordinate special events such as degree certification and produce digital and print resources for student support.
• Represent the Honors College at university functions, high‑school outreach, community events and professional meetings.
• Maintain accurate advising records and utilize tracking tools to monitor student progress.
• Assist with recruitment activities and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Experience in academic advising within a higher‑education setting, preferably with honors or undergraduate programs.
• Strong knowledge of undergraduate curriculum requirements and honors college policies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for counseling and workshop delivery.
• Ability to interpret and explain placement and vocational test results.
• Familiarity with FERPA regulations and student confidentiality standards.
