Academic Advisor I – Student Success

About the role

The Academic Advisor I supports undergraduate students at East Texas A&M University by guiding them through academic planning, degree requirements, and career goals. Working within the Student Success division, the advisor helps students navigate university resources and resolve academic challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic counseling on degree programs, course selection, and scheduling.
• Assist students with add/drop requests, withdrawals, and curriculum changes.
• Review academic records and test scores to ensure appropriate course placement.
• Offer input on probationary status decisions and support students on academic probation.
• Refer students to campus services and resources that address their personal and academic needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student interactions and advising activities.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Strong understanding of university academic policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a student services team.
• Commitment to student success and continuous improvement.
