3D Modeling & Reconstruction Tech Lead

About the role

World Labs is seeking a Tech Lead for 3D Modeling & Reconstruction to define technical direction and drive execution of its core 3D modeling efforts. The role blends hands‑on research engineering with leadership of a small team, translating cutting‑edge ideas into reliable, scalable product capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Set the technical vision and roadmap for 3D modeling and reconstruction, balancing research exploration with product milestones.
• Lead design and implementation of state‑of‑the‑art 3D modeling systems covering geometry, appearance, and scene‑level representations.
• Drive innovation in learning‑based and optimization‑based 3D methods, ensuring robustness and scalability on real‑world data.
• Guide architectural decisions for 3D representations, training pipelines, and inference systems, integrating with broader 3D data and rendering platforms.
• Mentor and manage a small team of research scientists and engineers, fostering rigor and ownership.
• Own end‑to‑end execution of initiatives from prototype to production deployment.
• Collaborate with research, engineering, and product partners to align capabilities with product needs and timelines.
• Represent the team internally and externally, contributing to publications, talks, or open‑source efforts.

Required profile

• Strong research science or engineering background with notable contributions to 3D reconstruction or modeling (publications, open‑source projects, or large‑scale production systems).
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and drive projects from research to productization.
• Excellent communication skills to work cross‑functionally and present work to diverse audiences.
