Volunteer Coordination Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a motivated Volunteer Coordination Intern to support its New York/New Jersey Resettlement, Asylum and Integration office. This unpaid, on‑site internship will give you hands‑on experience in recruiting, training and managing volunteers and interns within a leading humanitarian organization.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Volunteer Coordinator(s) in recruiting, screening, training and supervising volunteers and mentors.
• Maintain accurate volunteer and intern data in relevant databases and record program metrics.
• Post volunteer and intern descriptions and manage monthly timesheets.
• Conduct outreach and networking to attract new volunteers and partners.
• Oversee onboarding and exit processes, including background checks and account setup.
• Coordinate with program managers to identify volunteer and intern opportunities.

Required profile

• Previous experience in volunteer management, recruitment, or administrative support is strongly preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, cultural sensitivity and ability to meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills in a cross‑cultural environment.
• Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Familiarity with Salesforce database management (a plus).
