About the role
Texas A&M University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician III to join its growing Blood Bank program. The role combines support for Critical Care with hands‑on experience in transfusion medicine, offering a pathway to become a subject‑matter expert.
Key responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, and manage blood donors, maintaining accurate records and coordinating donation schedules.
- Perform whole‑blood and component collections, monitor donor health, and process blood products for clinical use.
- Oversee inventory levels, track expiration dates, and distribute products to clinical services while minimizing waste.
- Maintain documentation for donor screening, collections, and product use, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and staff to support transfusion‑related care and educate trainees on blood‑bank procedures.
Required profile
- Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least four years of technical experience in a veterinary hospital or referral clinic; licensed Veterinary Technician preferred.
- Strong communication, customer‑service orientation, and computer proficiency in word processing and data entry.
