Veterinarian – Faculty (Veterinary Technology Program)

About the role

The Veterinary Faculty position is a full‑time, nine‑month, non‑tenure‑track role within the Veterinary Technology Program at Pierpont Community & Technical College. The incumbent will combine hands‑on animal care with classroom instruction, preparing students for entry‑level veterinary careers.

Key responsibilities

• Teach Veterinary Technology and Veterinary Assistant courses.
• Perform surgeries as appropriate.
• Maintain scheduled office, classroom, and laboratory hours.
• Participate in program administration and accreditation activities.
• Advise and mentor students.
• Serve on health‑science committees, program review, and assessment teams.
• Assist with student recruitment and retention.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Required profile

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree.
• Valid West Virginia veterinary license at time of employment.
• Experience treating both large and small animals.
• Knowledge of current veterinary practices, safety procedures, and regulations.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities for mentoring students.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, stand for extended periods, and possess fine motor and visual acuity.
