Vehicle Battery Test Engineer

About the role

A global supplier of automotive test facilities is looking for a Battery Lab Test Engineer for its Allen Park, MI location. The engineer supports the design verification (DV) physical testing and certification of traction battery pack systems for hybrid and electric vehicles, working with test and design engineers on functional, safety and thermal performance tests. It is presented as an entry-level opportunity to learn the testing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for the existing electrical test facility and help program teams make it ready for future testing
• Help automate current and future testing, aiming for full automation and 100% error detection
• Configure, operate and program the Lynx site automation system and its I/O, and review and sign off test setups for accuracy and safety
• Analyze test data, develop detection strategies for issues missed by the site control system and deliver data to customers
• Lead or support the creation of standardized test methods and turn test requests into executable test plans
• Direct and support test technicians, lead site troubleshooting, and propose equipment and facility upgrades
• Manage capital projects, including cost, timing, vendor coordination and scheduling

Required profile

• B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with at least one year of engineering experience (preferred), or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school
• Battery laboratory test experience preferred
• Understanding of vehicle powertrain, power supply and electrical systems, especially high-voltage, HEV and BEV applications
• Leadership, teamwork, analytical, oral and written skills, and strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Regular attendance, punctuality and dependability; occasional local travel; flexible schedule to cover weekend testing
