Underwriting Specialist / Executive Underwriter – Large Contract Surety

About the role

Zurich’s Large Contract West Region Surety Team is seeking a motivated Contract Surety Underwriter to strengthen its portfolio, elevate client relationships, and make a lasting impact across the 13 Western States. This highly technical position requires experience with Surety lines of business and offers the chance to lead complex large accounts, travel purposefully, and grow a network of top‑tier agents and brokers.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business for large contract surety.
• Navigate complex assignments with confidence and autonomy.
• Build and maintain strategic broker and agency relationships.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Manage complex large accounts and drive business development and retention.
• Travel approximately 20% across the Western region.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with required years of experience (3+ years for Specialist, 5+ years for Executive) in underwriting, finance, accounting, or banking.
• Knowledge of line(s) of business, legal and regulatory guidelines, and time restraints for quotes.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.
