Transportation Coordinator

About the role

The Transportation Coordinator at Sims Metal ensures the safe and efficient movement of metal recycling materials between customer and company sites. This role oversees daily transport operations, allocates work to the transport team and contractor drivers, and maintains accurate transport system data.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain transport systems and ensure data accuracy aligned with business needs.
• Assign transportation tasks to team members and contractor drivers, complying with business and legislative standards.
• Track job progress, update systems upon completion, and record factors affecting job costs such as delays or futile loads.
• Liaise with contractor drivers, customers, and vendors to determine job status and resolve incomplete jobs.
• Address and escalate complaints according to company guidelines.
• Assist with inventory and asset documentation for insurance, registrations, and inspections.
• Coordinate with maintenance for repairs and roadside assistance.
• Prepare daily work schedules and missed load reports.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting to meet company and legal requirements.
• Adhere to all safety, health, environment, community, and sustainability (SHECS) policies.
• Support diversity, cost management, continuous improvement initiatives, and policy compliance.
• Maintain communication and documentation for rail cars when required.
• Provide yard procurement assistance as needed.

Required profile

• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in an industrial transport environment.
• Understanding of relevant transportation regulations.
• Preferred experience with ferrous and non‑ferrous scrap metal transport.
