About the role
The Toxicologist will join 3M’s global safety team, working remotely from Minnesota while collaborating with scientists worldwide. The role focuses on evaluating human health risks of 3M products and guiding safer chemical choices.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct and document human health risk assessments for a broad portfolio of 3M products, including literature review, toxicological database evaluation, and exposure analysis.
- Author chemical hazard summaries for internal databases and recommend alternative chemicals when feasible.
- Coordinate toxicology study placements with third‑party contract research organizations.
- Monitor emerging scientific methods, regulatory updates, and contribute improvements to assessment processes.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to internal project teams, supporting business priorities with scientific expertise.
Required profile
- Master’s degree or higher in toxicology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences or a related field (completed before start date).
- At least three years of experience conducting toxicological or human health risk assessments.
- PhD, MD, DVM or board certification (DABT) is a plus but not required.
Required skills
- Proficiency with OECD QSAR Toolbox and other computational toxicology tools for hazard prediction, chemical categorization, read‑across justification, and weight‑of‑evidence assessments.
- Ability to critically evaluate model outputs, document scientific rationale, and communicate conclusions to stakeholders.
