About the role
Punahou School is seeking a temporary, part‑time Social Studies faculty member for the Fall 2026 semester (Grades 9‑12). The role focuses on fostering open‑minded debate, rigorous independent thought, and the social‑emotional and ethical development of students.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver engaging Social Studies instruction to high‑school students.
- Model and promote careful listening, lively debate, and analytical reasoning.
- Integrate computer literacy and research skills into the curriculum.
- Help students understand historical significance and its impact on the present and future.
- Instill respect for citizens’ rights, governmental processes, and cultural diversity.
- Support students in becoming positive, contributing members of society.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Sciences, or a related field (Master’s in Education preferred).
- Minimum three years of experience teaching Social Studies at the high‑school or college level.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Passion for working with a diverse student body and fostering ethical learning.

- 9‑month, part‑time contract (Fall semester).
- Salary range $29,540 – $59,727, prorated based on FTE.
