Telephone Technician II – Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN)

About the role

GDIT is seeking a Telephone Technician II to support the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN). This position provides hands‑on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications equipment that underpins critical defense communications.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair telecommunications systems and related equipment.
• Determine appropriateness of moderate equipment changes, including call switches, test trunks, and test links, and install communication circuits.
• Respond to emergency calls and system failures to restore service promptly.
• Provide reports, complete service requests, and define methodologies for new telephone or telecom services.
• Verify services by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms, and resolve or escalate issues as needed.

Required profile

• Associate degree (AA/AS) in a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with telecommunications installations, repairs, and troubleshooting.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
• Must meet DoD 8570.01‑M certification requirements (e.g., SPIN‑C) as required by the task order.

Required skills

• Experience with switches and Inter‑Switch Trunks (ISTs).
• Knowledge of Department of Defense (DoW) and commercial microwave/satellite systems.
• Ability to work with fiber‑optic and copper transmission media.
• Electronic circuitry and telecommunications troubleshooting.
• Precision adjustments on switches, relays, and other electrical control devices.
