Technical Development Representative (Performance Materials)

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Development Representative to join BASF’s Performance Materials team in Wyandotte, MI. The role focuses on developing formulations and providing technical service for rigid foam insulation products within the Autofroth® business across North America.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and qualify new rigid foam formulations for insulation applications.
• Provide process and formulation support to customers for both new and existing products.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, sales and marketing to address customer needs and drive product commercialization.
• Respond to technical inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and deliver technical presentations.
• Plan and execute laboratory projects, compile results, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Travel up to 50% to meet customers and support field activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in polymers, formulations, or related technical service.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Willingness to travel extensively as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience in polymer formulation and rigid foam development.
• Product qualification and technical service expertise.
