Teaching Assistant Professor – Classical Studies (Greek & Latin)

About the role

The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures seeks a full‑time, renewable, non‑tenure‑track Teaching Assistant Professor of Classical Studies to join the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in August 2027. The incumbent will coordinate the Ancient Greek and Latin programs, maintain a 4/4 teaching load, and oversee introductory curricula while providing high‑quality instruction in both languages.

Key responsibilities

• Teach Ancient Greek and Latin courses at all levels, including large enrollment classes on Greek, Roman, and Mediterranean culture.
• Serve as program coordinator, overseeing introductory language curricula and supervising teaching assistants and adjunct instructors.
• Participate in departmental activities that enhance teaching quality and student success.
• Maintain regular, reliable on‑campus presence and foster collegial relationships with faculty and staff.

Required profile

• Terminal degree in Classical Studies (or closely related field) earned by August 1 2027.
• Demonstrated record of exceptional undergraduate teaching and mentoring, with ability to teach both Latin and Classical Greek.
• Experience developing effective undergraduate courses and mentoring students in independent research.
• Evidence of active scholarly engagement through research, publications, conference participation, or service to professional organizations.
