Tax Preparer

About the role

Ceiba Accounting Firm is a bilingual (English/Spanish) remote‑first accounting firm serving construction contractors, real‑estate developers, law firms, and healthcare businesses in South Florida. We are looking for a Tax Preparer to handle individual and business tax returns under the supervision of our CPA.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare individual and business returns in tax software using client‑provided documents (W‑2s, 1099s, K‑1s, trial balances, closing statements).
• Enter and organize data accurately, tie the return back to the books, and assemble supporting workpapers.
• Build open‑item lists and chase missing documents from clients in English and Spanish until the file is complete.
• Prepare depreciation schedules, extensions, and estimated payments; flag unusual items for reviewer.
• Turn around review comments quickly during busy season; all returns are reviewed, signed, and filed by the CPA.

Required profile

• 2+ years experience preparing U.S. federal and state tax returns or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Working knowledge of individual and pass‑through returns (Schedule C, Schedule E, rentals, K‑1s).
• Comfortable with professional tax software (Drake, Lacerte, ProConnect, UltraTax, or similar) and able to learn new systems quickly.
• Solid QuickBooks Online and Excel skills.
• Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish.
• Accurate, organized, and able to keep a queue of returns moving against real deadlines.
• Reliable internet, quiet workspace, and availability overlapping U.S. Eastern business hours.
