Tax Manager

About the role

Mapbox is seeking a Tax Manager to lead the planning and implementation of its global tax strategy. This individual contributor role focuses on technical and functional ownership of tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, supporting fast‑paced, collaborative business initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee income tax, sales & use tax, gross receipts tax, franchise tax, VAT, business tax, property tax returns and filings.
• Coordinate with external teams and manage the annual tax provision.
• Maintain the tax calendar to ensure timely filing compliance.
• Respond to government tax agency audits, notices, and requests.
• Assist with quarterly transfer pricing calculations and related journal entries.
• Analyze tax planning, income tax consequences of non‑standard transactions, and cross‑functional initiatives.
• Prepare apportionment details for state income tax calculations and perform month‑end tax account reconciliations.
• Prepare tax footnotes and disclosures, and stay current on new tax legislation.
• Support corporate entity compliance, registrations, and new entity formation.
• Provide tax guidance to sales and legal teams during deal negotiations.
• Maintain third‑party software for indirect sales tax (e.g., Avalara, Stripe).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Master’s in taxation preferred).
• CPA certification or in the examination/licensing process preferred.
• 6‑10 years of tax experience, preferably in a software environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Detail‑oriented, analytical, able to multi‑task with high accuracy.
• Independent problem‑solver with dependable work ethic.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
• Experience with Netsuite, Avalara, and Stripe.
• Strong analytical and communication abilities.
