Tax Compliance Manager

About the role

As a member of Collective’s Tax team, you will act as a trusted tax accountant for self‑employed customers and support the Member Relations group. You will manage a portfolio of clients, mentor junior staff, and ensure high‑quality tax compliance across federal and state filings.

Key responsibilities

• Understand clients’ financial backgrounds and identify optimization opportunities.
• Prepare, sign, and file federal and state returns, including Form 1040, 1120‑S and related schedules.
• Mentor and train junior tax staff, providing feedback and supporting their growth.
• Research tax laws, produce technical memos, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of tax law changes and assess their impact on compliance.
• Collaborate with leadership and other departments to resolve complex tax issues.
• Prepare periodic compliance reports highlighting risks and opportunities.

Required profile

• Active CPA, EA, or JD in the state of residence.
• 3‑5 years experience preparing and filing Form 1040, 1120‑S (additional forms a plus).
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Tech‑savvy with ability to quickly learn and teach new tools.
• Proven experience leading cross‑functional workstreams.
• Exposure to multi‑state tax principles such as nexus and apportionment.

Required skills

• CPA/EA/JD certification.
• Proficiency with CCH, GoSystems, SurePrep.
• Experience using Google Suite and Slack for collaboration.
