Systems Software Engineer (Autonomous Vessels)

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Systems Software Engineer to develop and optimize software for autonomous surface vessels. The role involves creating robust navigation, control, and communication systems that operate reliably in challenging maritime environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software systems on NixOS for autonomous navigation, control, and communication.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with vessel systems.
• Implement control algorithms and sensor‑fusion pipelines.
• Optimize network communications for low‑bandwidth, high‑latency conditions.
• Conduct testing, validation, and code reviews to ensure reliability and performance.
• Troubleshoot complex software issues and document designs and test results.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of software development experience, preferably in autonomous systems or robotics.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and ability to work in a fast‑paced startup environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C, C++ and Rust.
• Experience with embedded Linux and NixOS.
• Knowledge of low‑level serial protocols such as RS‑232 and CAN.
• Understanding of networking protocols TCP/IP and UDP.
• Familiarity with algorithms, data structures and software design patterns.
