Sustainment Engineer – Military Weapon Systems

About the role

Moog’s Space and Defense Group is seeking a Sustainment Engineer to support the lifecycle of advanced weapon systems. The role is based onsite in Santa Barbara/Goleta, CA and works closely with sustainment leadership, customers, and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop operation, test, and maintenance instructions, including technical manuals, bulletins, and retrofit procedures.
• Review and validate technical accuracy of maintainability analyses and publications.
• Lead configuration‑management activities and define scope for engineering changes.
• Provide technical input during proposal, fielding, and upgrade phases of contracts.
• Coordinate root‑cause and failure analysis, and drive component repair process improvements.
• Interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, schematics, specifications, and military standards to support sustainment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience supporting sustainment, fielding, or modernization of complex military or aerospace systems.
• Ability to obtain and retain a Secret Clearance.
• Proven experience interfacing with customers and suppliers on complex projects.

Required skills

• Hydraulic and mechanical actuation systems knowledge.
• Electronics assembly and test expertise.
• Interpretation of engineering drawings, BOMs, schematics, and interface control documents.
• Root‑cause and failure analysis.
• Configuration management.
• Technical writing for maintenance procedures and manuals.
