Sustainable Development Officer – Regional Liaison for Africa

About the role

The Sustainable Development Officer, Regional Liaison supports the UN Resident Coordinator System by providing analysis, briefing, and coordination between Headquarters and the Africa Regional Office. Based in New York, the role reports to senior programme and inter‑governmental leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare briefing notes, mission packs, and meeting read‑outs for senior leadership, covering complex development, crisis and transition contexts.
• Collect, maintain and analyse quantitative and qualitative data on sustainable‑development trends, cross‑border dynamics and emerging risks, producing visualisations and evidence‑informed insights.
• Conduct horizon scanning, monitor inter‑governmental processes and support senior‑leadership engagements and visits related to the Africa region.
• Facilitate two‑way information flow between Headquarters and the Regional Office, supporting work‑plan implementation and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in sustainable development, economics, public policy, or related field; data‑analytics training is a plus.
• Minimum five years of progressive experience in sustainable development, policy analysis, or development cooperation, preferably with inter‑agency or inter‑governmental work.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, ensure data validity, and incorporate gender and inclusion perspectives.
